Using Real-World Contextual Images to Enhance Thinking and Learning

Digital photography opens up many interesting possibilities for learning.

On the left are links to some suggestions for the use of digital photographs to encourage better observation, context-based learning and a better response to "real-world" problems. The photos were all taken at or near Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

One possibility is that students could be given these contextual questions as a lead-in to a topic of study. They would research the problem and present a short report to the class. Of course, it is best if the students go to the actual site of the photo to see what is really going on, make observations and measurements and then use this to enhance their understanding.
